I’ll admit there is probably some corolation between violent video games and some of the kids who are messed up enough to shoot up their school, but I firmly believe that the games aren’t what causes the shooting. These kids will say things like: “I’m gonna go shoot up my school” and they just happen to be the type of kids of kids who play violent video games. They don’t say: “I play Grand Theft Auto, so I’m gonna bring a gun to school.”
Anyway, this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone folish enough to mention WoW as being the video game causing violence like this, and it shows just how little the reportes know about the game, genre and medium.
The worst part is that if you take the time to read the article you can see how much the reporter is stretching things to incorporate the video game aspect of things. I’m sure he likes other thing that are also totally unrelated to this potential tragedy… so why isn’t the article: “Fan of Riding Bicycle “Planned School Massacre”.
This is just another example of sensationalist media nonsense create for the soe purpose of stirring up unrelated controversy which, low and behold, involves video games.
Some video games are violent as anything and shouldn’t be played by kids. Most importantly, however, parents should know what their kids are up to. If your kid is into computers and you don’t know much about them you need to take the time to learn the basics of what is and isn’t a possibility.
But, of course, this should be said for anything someones child is interested in.
