I firmly believe that anyone can do virtually anything they set their heart to. Hell, I’ve rewritten the Sound of Music and filmed, produced, directed and edited a 15 minute video with the material that was entirely hotel based. Not to mention all the other stuff I’ve done that has been, shall we say, decided out of character or at least quite unexpected. I’ve proved that I can achieve virtually any goals I set for myself, and while it’s probably gone to my head somewhat, it’s certainly left me feeling quite good about myself.
But while I may be able to do anything I set my mind too… I’ve realized that I can’t do everything I set my mind to. My attention span is like a laser-shotgun, it seems. pinpoint accuracy accross multiple targets… but woefully uncontrollable in its timing. My time covering the NSCC strike, which has been of paramount importance to me, has been at the expence of many of the categories I initially set-up for the site. The halls of geekdom remain silent at Webstravaganza. My forays into covering the gadgets and technology which interest me so much have been unfortunately lackluster. I’m not even playing video games right now… how can I cover them without simply plagiarising other peoples revues?
I can’t.
So… I need to find some other posters. I had originally decided to do this on my own, and then enlisted someone else into posting with me. World of Warcraft devoured my free time and I abandoned him to posting. It was, in all likelyhood, one of the saddest online experiences I’ve had to date. Abandoning something I care about at the expense of an addiction i wouldn’t admit to a video game… well, that wasn’t great. So while I played 4 World of Warcraft accounts simultaneously, my friend continued posting for a while and then gave up as well.
Not this time. This time it’ll be different. This time, Webstravaganza will be what it should be. What I’ve envisioned for it: nothing huge, nothing that generates tons of money, but something that matters. Something that matters to me and to the people who read it. Opinions, discussions and content that will entertain, amuse and hopefully get people thinking.
So I’m going to go out and look for people. I’m going to look for bloggers who I feel have great site content but haven’t posted consistently. And I’ll ask them why that’s the case. Because blogging is daunting. When I look at the fact that my busiest day is only 152 readers, well, I get a little discouraged. It’s easy to walk away from numbers like that.
So I’ll find people who have walked away from their own projects, but who don’t want to give up, and I’ll invite them to join my project. And hopefully that’ll work.
I’m looking for:
- 1 Person to discuss Global News
- 1 Person to discuss Politics
- 1 Person to discuss Movies
- 1 Person to discuss Television
- 1 Person to discuss Music
- 1 Person to discuss Comic Books (Including animated movies and TV shows)
- 1 Person to discuss Video Games (this may expand to cover multiple consoles)
- 1 Person to discuss Technology and Gadgets
- 1 Person to discuss Software and the Computer Industry
- 1 Person to discuss the Internet and all of its nonsense
These subjects aren’t the be-all-end-all of the content people can upload, anyone can post anything they like provided it’s interesting. I will continue to post on all subjects and will maintain the site and provide editing should anyone require it.
So, if you’re reading this and you think to yourself: “He sort of described my situation” or: “I’d like to get involved in this” feel free to drop me a line at eric@webstravaganza.com
And for the rest of you, thanks for reading. I appreciate every visit and every comment.
