Wil Wheaton: The Man, The Mysery.

So, oddly enough, Wil Wheaton gets to be one of the first recurring topics on my blog. As some of you may remember, one of the former contributors to the blog posted about him a while ago. I find myself wanting to discuss him further today.

The man is just fascinating. I don’t even know how to describe it. He’s done a tremendous job of taking what he was know for… and walking away from it. I originally started reading his stuff on his first website, but he suffered from massive computer woes and ended up moving to another site. He’s even done a good job of playing off his server problems. He now posts as “Wil Wheaton dot Net: In Exile“. He’s an excellent writer and is doing an excellent job of living his life beyond Star Trek, although every once in a while he provides some delightfully insightful or very interesting tidbits for his fans who like him because of Trek.

Some people haven’t done as well of a job as they’d like to have done to get away from roles that may have typecast them. Others have met with a decent amount of success. Mark Hamil has done some of the best voice-acting in the 20th century, especially considering his that the role of luke Skywalker is one of the biggest acting roles of the same time period. But Mark Hamil has to hide behind a cartoon in order to do it.

Wil, if he can be considered as hiding from the evils of Wesley Crusher, seems to be doing so from behind a keyboard. He writes about himself, he writes about his life and he writes professionally. But he still acts as well. I’m really excited about his upcoming appearance on Big Bang Theory. He’s just the type of actor who can pull off a role on that show.

So Wil, if you’re out there: Kudos to ya. There are a lot of people who wouldn’t have done half as good as you have, given three times the opportunities.

But, unfortunately, you’ll always be that kid from Stand By Me. So ha.
